This is a lesser known feature of the OS. When it is accidentally turned on, it can be very difficult to understand why Windows 10 does not show the desktop background.
Your Desktop is a special folder which shows your background wallpaper that you have chosen and your files, folders, documents, shortcuts and all such items you have stored. It appears every time you sign in to Windows.
Your desktop background (also called wallpaper) can be a picture from your personal collection or included with Windows, a solid color, or a slide show playing selected pictures randomly on all displays.
There could be many good reasons you may want to prevent users from changing the desktop background on Windows 10. Perhaps you work for a company that wants devices (or guest computers) only to display a custom wallpaper with a company logo. Or at home, if you share your computer with other people, you may want to see a particular desktop background, but someone keeps changing it.
Windows 10 offers a few ways to keep users from changing the desktop background on a computer, including using Group Policy and modifying the Registry.
When you turn off (uncheck) show desktop background image, your desktop background will only show as solid black.
When you turn on (check) show desktop background image, then whatever you set for your desktop background will show again.
Windows 10 is very different from Windows 7 and earlier versions of the Windows operating system. If you have used Windows 8 or 8.1 for some time, you likely aware of some features, but Windows 10 is a whole lot different for users who upgraded from Windows 7 and previous versions.
With default settings, when you use a Microsoft account to sign in, Windows 10 automatically syncs several things to the cloud, including your current desktop theme.
