Tools and Parts

1. A long RJ-45 cable typically 25 to 50 feet
2. One or more wireless routers depending on how much area you want covered.
3. Access to a computer to configure the router through a direct connection from the computer to the router. Must do this to change the LAN(Local Area Network) IP address.
4. Find out what your LAN IP address Gateway is. Go to command prompt and type in Ipconfig. Write the default gateway address, and subnet mask.

Adding additional routers to your main router is useful when you have to cover a large area. Your main router may not give you the coverage you may need in a large house, or a large office.

Procedure

1. Configure the router with a computer. Go into the router via internet browser.
2. Put in the password and username. Check your manual to see what the default username and password is for your router.
3. After you get into the router.
A. Disable DHCP Server.
B. Put in an IP address, this corresponds to your Gateway address. Ex: Gateway address=192.168.2.1. IP Address: 192.168.2.101 for extended router.
C. Put in the Subnet Mask. If you don't know go to a computer in your network and go to command prompt and type in "ipconfig". It will look like 255.255.255.0 or something like that.
D. Internet Setup=automatic configuration DHCP.

You are all set. You need to bind the mac address and ip address of your extended router to reserved spots on your main router's DHCP Client's List. Before you do that, you must enable the Mac Clone Address on your extended router. Write down the Mac address it will be xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx.

Go to your main router, and go to the DHCP Address reservation section. Add the IP address of the router, and the Mac address of the router. This will reserve the router's LAN IP address, so there will be no IP conflicts. I will make a video about it to make it more clear.
