Your Amazon account is loaded with sensitive information about you that hackers would love to get their hands on. As a result, it's important to take every precaution to protect your account. An easy way to do that is to turn on two step verification on your Amazon account. Two step verification requires that anyone accessing your account from a new browser enter a code that's either sent to your phone number or an authenticator app before accessing your account. This ensures that even if someone has the username and password for your Amazon account, they still won't be able to get in. In this video I'll show you how to set up two step verification on your Amazon account using both your phone number and an authenticator app.
First let's walk through how to turn on two step verification on your Amazon account using an authenticator app.
Step 1. Navigate to the Amazon Your Account screen. If you're on a web browser, click "Account and Lists" from your Amazon home screen, and then click "Your Account." Alternatively, in the Amazon app for iPhone, iPad and Android devices, tap the "Menu" icon at the top of the screen, and then tap "Your Account" in the menu. The Your Account screen appears.
Step 2. Click "Login and Security" on this screen. Enter the password for your Amazon account if prompted. You'll arrive at the Login and Security screen.
Step 3. Click "Edit" next to "Two Step Verification Settings." The Two Step Verification Settings screen is displayed.
Step 4. Click "Get Started." You'll land on the Enroll 2SV Authenticator screen, where you can choose to set up either a phone number or an authenticator app as your primary form of two step verification for your Amazon account.
Step 5. Select "Authenticator App." Launch your authenticator app and then scan the code on the screen. Amazon will appear in the list of accounts in your authenticator app.
Step 6. Enter the authentication code associated with Amazon in your authenticator app, and then click "Verify OTP and Continue." The next screen will explain how to enter the one time verification passcode on older devices that don't support prompting you for it. In those scenarios you'll need to enter the one-time passcode at the end of your Amazon account password.
Step 7. Scroll down to the bottom of this screen and tap "Got it. Turn on two step verification." You'll be routed back to the Two Step Verification Settings screen, where you'll see a note that two step verification has been turned on for your Amazon account.
