Nothing can be more frustrating than when you've got to look for a specific email message in Gmail, but you can't find it because it's grouped together with all of the other messages in that thread. If you want all of your Gmail messages to be ungrouped and broken out individually, you need to turn off Conversation View. Thankfully, Gmail Conversation View can be disabled with a few quick clicks.
First let's walk through the steps to ungroup emails in the Gmail app on your iPhone, iPad or Android device.
Step 1. Tap the hamburger icon next to the Search in Mail field at the top of the screen to open a menu.
Step 2. Scroll down to the bottom of this menu, and then tap "Settings." The Settings screen is shown.
Step 3. Tap the Google account at the top of the screen where you want to turn off conversation view in the associated Gmail account. An account screen is displayed.
Step 4. Scroll down this menu and then tap the toggle next to Conversation View. A message will be displayed letting you know that Conversation View has been turned off, and that if you want to change it going forward you can do that through your account settings. Tap "Got it." You'll got back to your Gmail home screen where you'll see no longer see messages in the same thread grouped together.
Now let's look at the steps to turn off conversation view to ungroup emails in Gmail on the Gmail.com website.
Step 1. Click the "Settings" icon at the top of your Gmail home screen to open a menu.
Step 2. Scroll down to the Email Threading section, and then tap to remove the check mark next to Conversation View. A message appears on the screen telling you that you'll need to reload Gmail for Conversation View to be turned off. Click "Reload." You'll land on your Gmail home screen where you'll see conversation view has been turned off and emails in the same thread are no longer grouped together.
