How to use laptop as monitor for desktop PC
10To use your laptop as a monitor for you desktop PC you need a video capture stick like this and the free software OBS. Connect the HDMI cable that would have went in your monitor into the capture stick and connect it to your laptop. If your PC is old and doesn’t have HDMI, use an adapter for VGA or Display port. Okay and after plugging the cable into your laptop and have installed OBS, it’s a free, open source software, you can just google it, or look in the video description. I will leave a link there. Also this trick works on Windows, Mac and Linux.
Okay, once you are in OBS, press the plus icon under sources, Video capture device and from the drop down menu choose USB video. Name it however you want and voila. To make it fullscreen just right click on the preview screen and click on Fullscreen.
You will be able to see what the monitor of the PC would have shown. This is good for emergency cases where you need to fix a PC, you lack a monitor. This is not ideal for daily uses, both because the laptop already has an operating system and consumes much more than a regular monitor and because of input lag. In my case, the input lag was barely noticeable when doing simple tasks, but when gaming, especially if you need to be precise, the input lag is another major downside. Still, this trick remains cool and can be handy in emergency situations. I hope this video helped.
