This is one of those eps that is so intensely personal to a specific character that it'd be hard to actually use it as-is. Soong-type androids are very much a Data thing. He's not the only one, but there's very few. You could have someone make knock-offs, like Lal, and just say they somehow have figured out how to make the positronic matrix work. Or just use non-Soong androids. There's a bunch of options.

Also the giant space crystal. classic TNG enemy, but was shown as being just one, enh, you could retcon it and fight a smaller one maybe. The Crystalline Entity is so mysterious we literally don't know where it came from at all. So we don't actually know if it was unique.
