Finally! A tutorial on how to use the /scoreboard command.
First, add a scoreboard with
/scoreboard objectives add test dummy

Then set the display so you can see it.
/scoreboard objectives setdisplay sidebar test

Add points:
/scoreboard players add @p test 1

Remove:
/scoreboard players remove @p test 1

Set:
/scoreboard players set @p test 10

Remove the objective by typing
/scoreboard objectives remove test
