How to write a character who struggles with their identity #kpdh #kpopdemonhunters
in my last video we talked about norigae and what they mean for Rumi, zoey, and Mira. After reading your comments I felt a follow up was needed specifically going into their upbringing. Rumi dealt with tradition, Mira feeling like a problem child, and Zoey grew up in America but was brought up with a culture of another country. Speaking from my own experience, when you grow up like this you sometimes feel like you don’t fully fit in to either home. In truth both of them are her home like the turtles whose home is on land and sea! Zoey LOVES turtles incredibly so and maybe it’s because she likes the idea of a creature that comes from two homes and fully embraces it. We also talk about the huntrix mentor and the one who raised Rumi: Celine. She has TWO norigae! Is it Rumi’s mothers?
In kpop demon hunters #huntrix each have their own unique traditional accessory called the norigae which are also known as “pretty and playful” accessories. Euni Cho (the character designer) and Cruz Contreras (an animator) brought their norigae to life in the kpop demon hunters Netflix movie. Cruz said it was one of the hardest items to animate since they are always swinging around. I’m glad they kept it in it adds a whole new charm to Zoey, Mira, and Rumi! on twitter there are artists, voice actors, and directors revealing extra bits about the show such as the symbolism and in this we explore what each of the huntrix unique character design means for the girls and their background stories through a small deep dive / analysis!
