What we know

18 clubs
6 English Premier League clubs as well as clubs from Spain, Italy, France and Germany
Barcelona, Real Madrid,
Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United,
Juventus, AC Milan,
Paris Saint-Germain
Bayern Munich
Rotating Guest Teams - Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, Marseille, and Roma
2 not named (likely Tottenham & one of Inter, Napoli, Leipzig or Monaco)

Each club would be paid up to £310m to join followed by up to £213m per season
Barcelona accepted before Chairman resigned, Madrid and Bayern are pushing for it.
Teams and Players would be banned from world cup and other FIFA competitions

How it would work

Initially would be a cup competition with 16 teams
5 guest teams would be replaced each season based on performance in a secondary league
All teams play all other teams
Based on league position entering a ‘playoff match’
This would be a postseason tournament
Winner of tournament earns 100s of millions in prize money

Why it would kill football/ Why its happening

These teams bring in a huge amount of the TV revenue to the leagues, remaining teams would have to massively cut back and would cause a chasm of income and talent between the Super League & domestic teams.
Proposal is because there are now more teams competing for European spots than there are spots to fill. Leicester, Liverpool's resurgence & Spurs becoming title challengers over past 5 seasons has meant the 6 spots are now filled by 8-10 teams.
Teams like Arsenal who are currently in dips would get the guaranteed £213m rather than the £0 they currently get for European football
Other European leagues are wanting some of the TV revenue the Premier League makes, with France, Germany and Italy making a fraction of the English sides.

Will it happen

Teams want it to, but players and European officials are hesitant
More likely than a Super League is an expansion to the Club World Cup and change in the way the European cups function
The huge amounts of money are not currently there to fund the initial breakaways, but could be soon.
A minority of fans would boycott their old teams to instead stick with teams that play domestically
Clubs would prefer the Champions League to also allow qualifications based on previous years performances to avoid losing out on so much money from one bad season. This has hurt almost all the Premier League teams at some point recently. Since 2014 (last 7 seasons), the big 6 teams in English football have only occupied the top 6 for 3 seasons.
