I'm making a game (the title is secret for just a couple more weeks, but it's gooood). It's a click adventure set during the satanic panic of the 1990s... so even if you weren't alive, it'll give you a glimpse into a weird time where moral panic was totally out of control.

Info on the new album:

The first eight tracks were created in October 2024 and are really the core of the album. The rest are bonus tracks that all have different themes.

I've explored metal with chiptunes and fm synth, but I haven't really explored goth metal or goth rock. So, that's what we have here.

Let's talk about the instruments I used. On the last album, I used a lot of Roland midi like the SC-55 and the SC-88. These were very fancy modules that many DOS games utilized. This time I used DOS-style FM synth for most of the songs. This means ADLIB, OPL2, and OPL3. I love the buzzy sounds you get from those Yamaha chips. The drums and a few of the other instruments were SNES samples.

Lastly, I did follow the rules on a few songs. Far From Home was made with the NES in mind and Rocket Mouse was made with the Sega MegaDrive/Genesis in mind.

These songs may sound a bit too fancy to be chiptunes, and that is because I cheated. I applied a tiny bit of reverb to the lead instruments. The other instruments get the SNES delay effect.

Here is a breakdown of each song and the instrument styles that I used:

1. The Witch Who Saved Me – 03:46 (DOS & SNES)
2. Beyond the Umbra – 05:49 (DOS & SNES)
3. Where the Monsters Come Out to Play – 04:34 (DOS & SNES)
4. Walk Into the Fog With Me – 03:36 (DOS & SNES)
5. The Beauty of Melancholy – 05:06 (DOS & SNES)
6. Moonlit Snow (Nightfall Mix) – 06:34 (DOS & SNES)
7. IRQ 5 Drive – 04:22 (DOS OPL2/3)
8. Far From Home (NES) – 03:55
9. Rocket Mouse – 03:48 (Sega MegaDrive/Genesis)
10. Stars That Fall – 01:51 (NES)
11. Solar Crisis Title Screen – 02:38 (FM Synth)
12. Solar Crisis BGM – 04:25 (FM Synth)
13. Lair of the Vampire – 02:48 (Symphonic)
14. Ninjas at Night – 03:51 (Symphonic)
15. Far From Home (DOS) – 03:56

Solar Crisis was made for the Adventure Game Jam. I handled the pixel art, music, and dialog, while Jess worked her magic on the game logic. We completed everything in just two weeks. Check out the game here: wardhale.itch.io

"Lair of the Vampire" and "Ninjas at Night" originally composed for the awesome Doom WAD: Abysm 2. Info here: ko-fi.com/jazzmaster
