Hunchback was originally published in arcades in 1983.
The game is loosely based on the 1831 Victor Hugo novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame and the player controls Quasimodo.
Set on top of a castle wall, the player must guide the Hunchback from left to right while avoiding obstacles on a series of non-scrolling screens. The goal of each screen is to ring the church bell at the far right.

Ocean Software published ports for the Commodore 64, Oric, and ZX Spectrum in late 1983, with versions for the Acorn Electron, Amstrad CPC, VIC-20, Dragon 32 and MSX released later.
It was Ocean's first arcade port and reached number one in the UK sales charts.

At 01:50 you can see the brief death animation, with a flashing screen.

Obstacles seems to appear randomly during the game.
Every time the game loops, it became more difficult and also some rooms changes. They don't seem to change randomly, because every time you play a new game, the same changes will occur..but a "mistery" remains: how many loops and how many changes have benn made??

As usual, many many many many thanks to minotaurus85, the Commodore 64 expert (at least the most expert of his entire town :D), he recorded this longplay and explained me what i wrote above ;)

This video is part of the videogame endings database, whose goal is to catalogue and create the world's largest archive of videogame endings! (what an humble and not ambitious project :D)
