Fans of the wildly popular ''Hunger Games'' series of novels are eagerly awaiting any information about a possible ''Hunger Games'' movie. Lionsgate secured the rights to the movie in 2009 and early speculation said a movie would come out in 2011 - IMDb does indeed list ''Hunger Games'' as a 2011 release. ''USA Today'' reported several months ago that ''Hunger Games'' author Suzanne Collins was "finishing her screenplay of ''The Hunger Games,''" and MTV quotes two Lionsgate producers as saying a draft of the screenplay has been delivered and is in revision. The producers reportedly told MTV that "They hope to be able to announce a director this summer, and go into production in January to release the film later in 2011."

The ''Hunger Games'' young-adult series features three novels: ''The Hunger Games,'' released in 2008, ''Catching Fire,'' which came out in 2009 and ''Mockingjay.'' ''Mockingjay'' is the third and final book in the trilogy. It was released on August 24, 2010.

For those who haven't yet read the ''Hunger Games'' books, the series revolves around a post-apocalyptic North America, which is divided into a dozen different districts known as "Panem." The dictatorship is dominated by television. Once a year, 24 teenagers are drawn by a lottery to play "Hunger Games" - essentially fights to the death on TV.

The heroine of the ''Hunger Games'' series is Katniss Everdeen. Much of the casting speculation for a ''Hunger Games'' movie revolves around who will portray Katniss Everdeen on the big screen. Suggestions have ranged from Twilight's Kristen Stewart or Dakota Fanning to Academy Award-winning actress SURSHA RONIN. Other sugestions include actress Chloe Moretz from ''Kick-Ass,'' ''The Vampire Diaries''' Malese Jow and Jodelle Ferland, who played new vampire Bree Tanner in the latest ''Twilight'' installment, ''Eclipse.''

For now, there is no official release date for the ''Hunger Games'' movie - but we do know that Suzanne Collins is adapting the screenplay and Lionsgate will deliver the film, likely in 2011. For now, ''Hunger Games'' fans will have to bide time reading (and then re-reading) the trilogy.
