Hyper Duel - Classic Arcade Shoot 'Em Up (Technosoft 1993)
A classic side scrolling shoot 'em up developed by Technosoft, Hyper Duel was first released to arcades in Japan in 1993. The game was also later released for the Sega Saturn console in 1996.
Players took on the role of 1 of 3 transformable mech fighters known as "Buster Gears", that have the ability to transform into both spaceships and humanoid mechs with the push of a button. Though, each ship has their own unique laser based weapons. Rather than implementing bombs in the game, the mecha have 2 forms of power-ups; one which gives them the ability to fire at a 45 degree angle, and another that fires in all directions.
Some of the game's battles take place on planets, while converge deep within the depths of outer space. Players battling it out against an assortment of alien mechs, as well as huge motherships.
Story: At the site of a United Space Force lunar base, humans discover alien mechs, which they then further developed to become Buster Gears mecha. Unfortunately, one of the mecha units codenamed "Black Angel", has been stolen by one of the Space Force's scientists, and 3 pilots are now tasked with hunting down and capturing or destroying the mecha at all costs.
Hyper Duel was thought to be Technosoft's first arcade game ever, having launched on their TEC442-A arcade hardware.
