I Feel Old: Hard Hat Mack (1983, PC Booter / DOS)
82Another one of my first games I played before my NES.
The difficulty stems from mostly moments of bullshit collision detection (getting crushed by something that's opening up, as you'll see in this video) and the primitive "physics" of the game.
I still have no idea what to do at the end of the second stage (assuming I don't get crushed by those pinchers as they open up, or get rejected by that fucking chain while a Vandal is chasing me), and frankly I don't care anymore.
This game is also one of those examples of what happens when you don't calibrate the goings-on of the game with the system timer -- the speed of the game is entirely bound to the CPU speed. I muck around with DOSBOX's cpu cycles somewhere in this video and you can see and hear the effects.
