I tried to explain but decided a demonstration would be better instead - of course self-repair ship welders work on Space Engineers, but not as effective as people think they are considering;

1. How much slower they are in survival compared to creative
2. You also need the materials needed to repair the things
3. If the materials aren't directly beneath the welders, the conveyor line to the materials need to stay un-severed
4. Most of the things you want the welders to repair can probably be one-shot by Warfare 2 weapons anyway
5. Armoring the welders and or their conveyors will put so much weight and take so much resources as well as increase welding time

There are so many things that need to go right, prepared and compensated for for welders to even be remotely effective in heavy survival combat at which point it's probably more worth it to spend your pcu somewhere else
