He Promised Magneto he can make him and the entire Mutant Race Stronger if they relied on him...Magneto seeing a common goal agreed...

But something happened...the more Magneto used his power the weaker he became...and became more reliant on Cortez and his ability to enhance other people's power.

Until Magneto was too weak...and Fabian Cortez threw Magneto off his own Base and Proclaimed himself to be the leader...
