I Had FUN! - Freelancers: A Crossroads Game Review
#LiegeOfGames #boardgames
Plaid Hat Games!! The first question you'll need answered: Is it better than Forgotten Waters? YES! This is like if Forgotten Waters and Dead of Winter had a cardboard based bundle of joy. How does it compare? What do you need to know? Let's talk!
Pros: Better than it's predecessor of Forgotten Waters. It eliminates some the grinding or repetitiveness overall that Forgotten Waters did if you're familiar with the role/exploration system. More unique systems and adventures to keep you engaged and works just as well or even better at higher player counts in a narrow number of cooperative games that do so.
Cons: Not going to be as replayable as you may prefer your games to be if you repeatedly want to go back and get another experience with them. Also, the sheer randomness of it at times may leave you feeling frustrated if you're looking for more of a controllable narrative.
Per Boardgamegeek, "Freelancers: A Crossroads Game condenses the fantasy RPG campaign experience into a single night of fun and mayhem. Create a character, roll funky dice, and blaze your way through multiple stories set in a world of magic, monsters, and murder. Better yet, no game master is required, as a magical companion app does all the storytelling for you! Immerse yourself in fully-voiced, industry-leading audio as you play. Explore hundreds of branching paths in five highly replayable campaigns. Mix and match a multitude of species and jobs to build your own unique character. Pick up and play, simple rules, low commitment and no prep."
