Welcome to Unity
Welcome to Unity, the world's leading real-time creation platform.
Wait, what? What is a "real-time creation platform," exactly?
Unity's platform, also called a game engine, lets anyone create powerful video games or other real-time 2D or 3D applications. Using Unity is like having a team of hundreds of engineers backing you up and working on the systems that most games share - physics, graphics rendering, controller inputs, etc. - so you can concentrate on the parts of your application that are unique and expressive.
Why is it called a "real-time" platform?
Video games are real-time experiences because they respond instantly to player input. Every image you see on your monitor or in your VR headset is built by the computer and pushed to the display in a fraction of a second, sometimes hundreds of times a second. In contrast, computer-animated movies are not real-time. Artists labor for years to create amazing and beautiful 90 minute movies that play back the same way each time (though Unity is also leading a revolution in real-time movie making).
What things have been made with Unity?
Games you might have heard of, like Pokémon GO, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, Monument Valley, and tons more.
But can I do that with Unity? Is it really for me?
Yes, but enough words:
