I Paid for a Year of Game Pass and Now The Price Went Up
Elaborating about the Xbox Game Pass price hike, how it compares to PlayStation Plus and other alternatives.
I've got an email from Xbox saying that my Xbox Game Pass subscription, I'm a yearly subscriber is going to go up starting September 12 2024. And now they're going to charge me yearly $239.99. And sure, there's gonna be people complaining about it saying that way too expensive, I'm going to cancel it.
They actually even have a link here. They're like, if you want to cancel, you can manage your subscription here. There's gonna be some people who are going to cancel. But what are the alternatives? Let's talk about that. We have PlayStation Plus, to be quite honest with you, the games on there are pretty bad.
PlayStation is a good console to have really good triple A titles, but they never put those triple A titles in their subscription. Some of the new ones at least. Xbox Game Pass gets you all the newest games on day one and sure those games except for the Call of Duty that's coming up are not of the highest quality. Indiana Jones, if you look at it, it's a good looking game. But it's not a triple A title. It's a double A title and some of the new ones that are coming out as well. It's the same thing. It looks like they've made for a subscription consumption.
Do you agree with me or not? Have you noticed that these games are not like super high quality, like I said, except for Call of Duty. And then you look at the other alternative. How much are games nowadays? $69.99. Here in California, $69.99 is going to be $77 after tax. So for $240, you can get 3.11 games.
When I was a kid, that was a reason why I've gotten into Tekken. I've gotten into Gran Turismo. I've gotten into Halo because repeatability, you can keep playing those games over and over again. That's the whole reason why a lot of kids play GTA 5. Because there's just endless possibilities in this game. You can go do stuff and you have the online component to it and so on and so forth.
So as a kid, I had a hobby. Gaming was one of those hobbies. And if you're a kid or if you know someone who plays lots of video games, it is a hobby and hobbies cost money. And I can't really... So if you're paying $9.99 a month for the online service, for extra $10 a month, they can get all the games that come with it. Because how long can you play GTA 5 for?
You know, when parents buy kids games, they could probably afford getting them maybe one to two to three games a year. But those are the only choices that you have. If you have games on a consistent schedule coming out for a specific subscription price that costs about as much as three games per year, then your kid can enjoy playing all the other games.
And yes, they don't have some of the best ones right now. The catalog is going to start to, you know, have more and more games. You can't play GTA 5 or GTA 6. You actually have to purchase that game. But still, the whole point of this video is that I want children to realize that gaming is a hobby. You have choices. You can go buy games. You can buy physical copies.
You can buy digital copies. But this is just a subscription price. Because, you know, y'all probably using Spotify. How much do you pay for Spotify? I know it's kind of annoying that everything nowadays is a subscription.
But this is one of the better ones to be honest with you. Xbox is trying, I think, their best to bring all the best games to Game Pass and just create a subscription price, a subscription model. I'm not... I don't have any inside information. But I could see the price keep going up and up, maybe in two years or three years.
But again, it's only going up by a little bit. And if you have a hobby, you got to pay for it. You want to have a lot of games? $239.99. It's not a really bad price. By the way, $239.99 divided by 12. Yeah, that's like $19.99 a month.
So for $20 a month, you can go out there and Johnny can go out there and ask their parents to buy an Xbox Series S for real low cost and just have a subscription and play whatever games they want. Unlimited entertainment. With all the new games, all the future Bethesda games and Activision games coming to Xbox, I still think it's an incredible deal.
