I used ChatGPT to write a Starfinder RPG one shot adventure for a tabletop group and I was genuinely surprised at the results.

In this case, I can totally see how using ChatGPT to rough craft tabletop RPG adventures could be a useful tool for people who are regularly running TTRPG campaigns.

The AI pulled general Starfinder lore and gave me a very generic outline with story beats and three encounters to use for a one shot adventure, and while it wasn't what I would consider polished, it certainly took probably 75% of the heavy lifting off the table, which means the only thing I would need to do beyond that is polish the story and add elements like the actual encounters, names of NPCs, and etc.

I also toyed around with it writing a generic Dragonlance story as well. Very interesting!

It's an extremely interesting experiment, and comes on the heels of me reading about Ubisoft and other companies thinking about using AI to create rough drafts of quest dialogue to then hand off to a writing team to polish up.
