Rock-Star-Turned-Ragtime-Star Ian Whitcomb passed away this weekend. In this video, during the afterglow party of the 2016 West Coast Ragtime Festival, Ian, who had had a stroke a few years earlier and not played or sung since, suddenly got up and began singing along with the playing of pianist Adam Swanson. Here is a brief excerpt in which Ian sings "A Good Man Is Hard to Find" followed by his naughty version of "Ballin' the Jack" in which Andrew Greene also joins in on a second piano.
This would go on for probably over an hour. It was a remarkable moment. He even played piano a little bit, as much as he could with the limited movement that he had as a result of the stroke.
