Icebreaker: The 3DO and My Search for Andrew Looney
ICEBREAKER for the 3DO is the best game you've never heard of...
Created by ANDREW LOONEY, it was released on the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer in 1995 and ported to Windows 95 and Mac.
Despite the critical acclaim, the game did not sell well (mostly because of 3DO's failure on the 32-bit video game market).
Icebreaker 2 was created but never released and, until recently, the only copy was in a custom built arcade style machine at creator Andrew Looney's house. Andrew Looney's Icebreaker 2 was made available for the 3DO by Older Games on August 3, 2007. By December 2007, Older Games was bought out and the game is no longer available.
Andy and his wife Kristin together founded the games company Looney Labs, where Andrew is the chief creative officer. Looney Labs has published most of his game designs, such as Fluxx, Chrononauts, and the Icehouse game system.
