The ideologues I've known have not been able to think clearly. It doesn't matter if it's a commie that starts off as a hippie and turns into someone that supports North Korea, or a centrist that slowly starts turning into a paranoid, bigoted right-winger. They have convinced themselves that they are right, and they will not examine their own views with criticism. They're incapable of critical analysis, and are quite crap. Ideology poisons everything.
