Ancient Abyss is not a bad game, and maybe a bit similar to zelda but also a bit far-fetched to compare.
If there was a roguelike version of zelda then Ancient Abyss would be close in that direction, that's for sure.
If we look at the game as a top down roguelike hack & slash game then it is an interesting game.
The 'open world' feels a bit different than as we are used to with 2D zelda games, the square 'compartments' that divided the entire map that you traveled through don't feel that much at all in Ancient Abyss because these 'compartments' not quite square, which makes orientation a bit more difficult.
The music and the smooth pixel style that adorn the gameplay are very cleverly put together, very relaxing, and the combination of the two often gives us an atmospheric experience.
While exploring the maze you will also find various items including different weapons, certain weapons also have an extra function in the world such as the hammer rocks can break to clear your passage.
Other weapons are than the throwable or placeable, so you can also throw stones or bombs at enemies to hit them from a distance, or place a wooden barrel that you can then kick in a pointed direction to hit another enemy.
you will also be able to upgrade your character with skills.
You will also encounter bosses that you will have to defeat, these are also not that easy and keep the challenge alive.
