Crabby and Fishyyy fly a Lancaster to Germany and back. Please note that most aspects of nightfighting are horribly bugged in IL-2 1946 and that basically everything used in here is a stop gag measure to make it work at all. I know it is not a hundred percent realistic, but this is the only way to do it.

This took a very long time to make, because of various technical issues in IL-2 1946. The nightfighter AI is an absolute mess and it took me for ever to get it to work at all. AI nightfighters are basically unable to fly straight attacks and it often takes them a long time to succesfully attack a bomber. Because of that, I had to put a lot of nightfighters, so that there was at least a chance of us actually getting attacked by one. This is one of the reasons, why this mission turned out to be an absolute monster, with a total of 234 aircraft used. Overall the mission contains 2366 aircraft waypoints and 1179 ground objects. This is a very fps heavy mission and the use of target indicator flares does not help, they are quite performance intensive, too. In the end, I did not have enough fps to film this in normal speed, I actually recorded all the footage once in half speed and once in normal speed, for the proper game sound. I ended up with 27.5 hours of footage. When I test rendered a few minutes of footage in the usual 1080p resolution, I noticed that the quality was absolutely terrible, because Youtube does not handle dark videos well at all. That is the reason, why I rendered the video in 4k, Youtube allows for a lot bigger bitrate this way and the video actually looks decent. Rendering this in 4k took my PC a bit over 20 hours. My PC froze once while trying to render this and the rendering software crashed once. Well, it finally is done. The only full night bombing raid on Youtube.
