I’m supposed to be on the operating room table right now. I’m not. Insurance companies are broken.
I was supposed to be having a bilateral occipital nerve ablation performed today. After being on the operating room docket for a long time, my insurance company denied the procedure less than 24 hours before the surgery was going to be performed, after it has been approved multiple times in the past and nothing has changed on my end.
The procedure needs to be done every six months because, well, nerves grow back.
I’ll endure for weeks and possibly months, but without medical intervention to some degree I will deteriorate.
I’m not giving up and I am confident I will reach a resolution.
If you’re struggling with these issues, you should speak up. It’s helpful to let other people know they aren’t alone.
It’s particularly unfortunate that I had more cohesive and functional health care when I was homeless on Mass Health.
