Imone and the 99 Brothers [イモーヌと９９の兄さま] Game Sample - PC/Doujin
26Howdy all! Not much to say about this one; it's a super rare Doujin demo of Nepia World's 2007 game, "Imone and the 99 Brothers". The game was never completed and / or has never left the "Pre-Release" stage, and what was completed has an "Early Alpha" feel to it, but NW hunters have been looking for this one for many years.
The player takes the role of the titular Imone as she blasts monsters and ghosts with 99 feisty blobs and clears different "phases" or stages. There's no scoring, no end (though you're not really intended to get past phase 10 or 11) and no real point to the game, though it's interesting to think of what could've been. The game's infinitely rotating playing field is kinda neat and the few sprites in the game are cute, and the little bit of music in the game is kinda rad. Imone has to contend with bats who steal the blobs and ghosts who cast spells that will turn you into a frog... while in frog form, Imone is very vulnerable and can only hop about. If she's near a blob, they will attempt to eat her and if they land a clean bite, the game is over. The game will also effectively end if she runs out of blobs to fight back. Every third phase, the player will run into a boss who excels at stealing blobs and turning Imone into a frog, but they are generally easier than the levels themselves.
If the game spent more time in the oven, I think it could've been a more appealing endless title or restructured into a full-fledged action game, but it simply wasn't meant to be. Whelp, time to try and hunt down the rest of these odd little games... the last few are only going to be harder to find and preserve (being Nepia World / Team Dangeroude titles such as "Tepo Crash", "256-Biki Usa-chan" and "Nepia Land" if I branch over to the X68K).
