In today's video I'll share with you the importance of varying the saturation used in your paintings.
This means using the lovely range of grays you can produce with your colors, rather than only the most saturated version of them.
I will add an important note - I forgot to elaborate on the technique for this. I mute my colors by:
- Using the random mixes left on my dirty palette
- Using complementary colors (so I'd mute red with green, yellow with purple etc...)
- Using the other primaries (muting red by adding some blue and yellow).

Remember - contrast doesn't have to be just in value! It can also be in shape, size, color and temperature.
