Beloved Australian singer Marcie Jones has died at the age of 79, just days after revealing she’d been diagnosed with cancer.

Jones was best known as the lead singer of the Australian vocal girl group Marcie & The Cookies, who released several singles in the late 1960s before Jones went solo with a string of singles and a debut album That Girl Jones across the 1970s.

Jones’ daughter-in-law Lisa Asta announced her death in a Facebook post shared on Saturday, revealing she’d died the previous day.
