In the Tub With - Pit People Gameplay [Early Access]
Hey, it’s some Pit People gameplay! Thanks for checking in to this one off first impressions/gameplay video for the newly released, early access game, Pit People! Pit People is a turn based strategy, action RPG game where gameplay take place on a hex grid battleground as you fight against a variety of quirky enemies using even quirkier heroes. In Pit People, the action is fast and funny, even allowing for co-op, so if you are debating on whether Pit People sounds like a game for you, please consider watching my video of the Pit People gameplay.
'In the Tub' is a work in progress series in which I'll take a one off look at a game after spending some time with it. I'll attempt to show off gameplay, the mechanics and provide some of my initial thoughts. It is in no way intended as a review but rather as a source of commentated gameplay footage for anyone contemplating spending money but would like to see it in action first. Pit Pople is the second game to fall victim to my ‘In The Tub’ treatment so please try and stick with me as I find my feet in this loose critique of Pit People and the Pit People gameplay.
Developed and published by a studio known as The Behemoth, Pit People is the fourth game to be released from the same minds that brought you Castle Crashers and BattleBlock Theater however, Pit People and the Pit People gameplay proves to be a new direction for The Behemoth and they explore the turn based strategy genre. The Pit People gameplay evokes memories of similar titles such as Skulls of the Shogun or in my opinion, The Banner Saga due to it’s turn based gameplay and grid based movement.
Taken directly from its Steam store page, here’s what The Behemoth have to say about Pit People:
- A full cast of tragically unique heroes will rise together from the Pit. Master your destiny as you plot their course of action across an apocalyptic wonderland!
- In our fast-paced, turn-based, co-op adventure you’ll quest and explore, find awesome loot, customise your fighters, and recruit strange species. Rally your troops and steel your wits if you hope to survive a hostile world filled with sinister robots, deadly vampires and brutally adorable cupcake people!
Released onto Steam with effect from 13th January 2017 Pit People is pretty darn hilarious and the snarky, Pit People narrator has gotten more than a few laughs from me. The Pit People gameplay, especially the combat isn’t particularly new, but it works well and adds some interesting twists like not being able to delegate who your hero attacks if there is more than one option. The whole style of Pit People (having not played The Behemoth’s previous games) is what really grabbed me and I can honestly say that Pit People is just outright funny.
Please be aware that Pit People is currently released on Steam under early access and priced at £10.99. In my opinion, early access is always a gamble and it’s usually wise to hold off until full release. I can honestly say though, that Pit People is an enjoyable, polished experience that has made me laugh and even think strategically. From the video, you can see I’m only 40 minutes into Pit People and I have heard reports that there is only 90 minutes or so of content in the current build, please consider this if purchasing Pit People however, The Behemoth state there is a ton of content still to come, and you can get an idea of what that is by reading the early access segment in the Pit People steam store page (link below). I hope you enjoyed this video of Pit People and got a good idea of the Pit People gameplay.
