Indianapolis Supercross Recap: Jett Lawrence SWEEPS! Cameron McAdoo Wins 250s!
The 2024 Indianapolis Supercross saw the second triple crown race of the Supercross season. I was entertained by all 3 races in Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium, but I still had a couple of concerns.
The 450cc class saw Honda's Jett Lawrence sweep all 3 races over Suzuki's Ken Roczen #94. Roczen led all three races and withstood some serious heat from Lawrence, but Roczen could not win any of the three races in Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium.
Defending champ Chase Sexton on his Red Bull KTM had a quiet night going 3-3-2 for 3rd overall.
It was not a good night for the Yamaha boys, as Cooper Webb finished 5th overall (8-5-4), and title hopeful Eli Tomac finished 7th (4-7-10). Both gentlemen were plagued by mediocre starts, and Cooper Webb tapped the back of a lapper (Cade Clason) in the first main and crashed. 450cc rookie Justin Cooper finished 10th with 11-11-7 scores.
As of now, Jett Lawrence is reminding me of Ryan Dungey in his first year in the 450cc class in 2010, except all his competition is there. Dungey had to deal with James Stewart, Chad Reed, and Josh Grant to name a few, and all those guys went down with injury. Although Chad Reed returned after a 10-race absence, he was not up to par -- even in the Motocross season.
The 250cc class saw Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Cameron McAdoo earn his first win of 2024 with a 1-2-3 performance. It was between he and Star Yamaha's Haiden Deegan #38, who split the first two mains, but Deegan crashed in the first turn of race #3, and could only come back for a 6th (3rd overall).
KTM's Tom Vialle crashed in the first main event and finished 4th. He would finish 3rd in main #2, and win main #3 for 2nd place overall.
For now, we head to Seattle's Lumen Field next Saturday, where the weather can be very unpredictable.
