IndieView - The Swindle
They say "Crime doesn't pay." Well, in The Swindle it does but its DAMN hard to pull off! In The Swindle you have one simple task, steal as much you can and get away with it. Between you and your shiny cash is a arsenal of defense bots and cameras, mines, etc. The problem? You don't start out with much at all. Armed with a trusty club, you must claw your way up slowly and arm yourself by spending the hard earned cash you stole. On top of all that you only have 100 days(100 lives/heists) to beat the game. All the elements of The Swindle work well, the graphics, the overall theme, the abilities, the music. The problem lies in the one core mechanic of this game. The Roguelike nature of this game is extremely unforgiving and downright unfair at times, placing defenses and traps in areas that simply cannot be overcome, Either due to lack of ability or placement. The early game is perpetuated with this type of problem and it isn't exactly gently explained through tutorials, because there really isn't any. The game gets better after you have collected quite a few of your gizmos/abilities but you always feel like your in a race to keep up with timer/enemy. Which once those 100 days are up, its back to the beginning. Nonetheless The Swindle is a brilliantly fun game that just needs a little balancing and tweaking.
Big thanks to the developer for a chance to play this game!
