Developed in 2009 by Nude Maker and Platinum Games and published by Sega, Infinite Space is a RPG set in a science fiction setting. The follows the protagonist Yuri in his desire to leave his homeworld and seek something greater out amongst the stars like his father had done. He's always felt a calling to space ( who hasn't, right? ) but it's not until now he finally acquired the means to go there, and thus the tale begins . . .

「 The scenario drew influence from multiple sources. The main influences were science fiction authors Arthur C. Clarke and Greg Egan, and anime creator Yoshiyuki Tomino. In using Clarke, Kono took the themes of the novel Childhood's End and incorporated its perspective through the game's view of humanity from an overarching perspective. Another direct influence was the work of H. P. Lovecraft, particularly the contrast between the vastness of space and small-scale actions of humanity. Other cited influences from both Kono and Inoue include the television series Star Trek and the reimagined Battlestar Galactica; the manga Space Pirate Captain Harlock and Planetes; and the anime Space Battleship Yamato and Space Runaway Ideon. 」
I found this game ages ago when I was looking and asking people for sci-fi RPG's as they seemed barely around with the exception of Phantasy Star and I got this as well as some others pointed my way. Infinite Space in particular game with some pretty high praise and I can see why, though I must admit a certain level of disappointment in how fast Yuri gets off the planet. I expected something more akin to traditional run around and find parts to repair it with, something more exploratory. That being said, I also don't mind being thrown out into space immediately and I do wonder if one gets to explore stuff onfoot later on, but I have my doubts. That leaves me the feeling of a certain dregree of undercookedness.
This game however is fairly solid and I highly recommend it.
I also didn't expect to blow 4 ships down with just one barrage.
Never happened during my test run.. If I'd known, I would had changed the camera angle but.. I was commited.
I thought of putting some affiliate links to play-asia but decided not to.
They don't have any version of this game in stock. Nor did they have the guide-book but, that seemed neat!
They also made an official short-anime of it to garner attention back in the day.
