After performing the initial steps of the Trainer-escape glitch in Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow, there's a method involving the Elite Four to use that Trainer an unlimited number of times without losing access to another Trainer after changing boxes. There's an easier method that involves losing. The Elite Four version is probably ideal only if you only have one long-range Trainer and no other Trainers that walk up to you.

Steps:
1) Go to a long-range Trainer, such as the Gambler on Route 8 and step down and press start in front of his field of view to escape with Fly or Teleport. The "!" exclamation should appear when you Fly away, and the start button will be disabled.
2) Change boxes (saving the game) and reset the game. You should have access to your start menu again.

Important: Don't go back to the original location or glitchy effects will happen after you defeat or lose to a Trainer. Namely, as soon as you win or lose, a glitchy message will appear and you will be forced to battle that Trainer again, and after that the effects associated with Route 6 glitch/NPC glitch will occur.

3) Fly to Indigo Plateau and defeat the Elite Four and Champion. Watch the credits.
4) Choose Continue from the title screen.

Important: You must now encounter a wild Pokémon (or Trainer, but then this glitch wouldn't be infinite). It's Special stat will determine the Pokémon you encounter when you return to the route. You can encounter a Ditto and have it transform into one of your party Pokémon to load that Special, e.g. a Special of 21 = Mew.

If you don't encounter a wild Pokémon or Trainer, although the Start menu/ a dialog box will appear, nothing will happen when you close it!

5) Return to the route you escaped from the Trainer to encounter the Pokémon based on the last Special stat of the opponent in memory.
