In this video, I will discuss easier and quicker ways to solve input-output questions. Watch on and enjoy solving questions.
In this type of questions, a given input line of words or numbers or words and numbers is organised step-by-step following a specific rule to arrive at the final step. In order to solve questions based on Input, you must find out the rule of arrangement of words or numbers or words and numbers. Once you get the idea about the rule of arrangement of words or numbers you can solve the given set of questions very quickly.
Generally, each set of questions on Input remains based on a particular rule. The different sets of questions involve different rules of arrangement of words or numbers. Thus, there is no fixed number of rules of arrangement of words or numbers. However, the most common type of questions on Input involves arrangement of words as per dictionary or in alphabetical order or arrangement of numbers in ascending or descending order. Generally, one word or number is arranged in every step and the procedure is continued until all the words or numbers get arranged according to the specific rule. In another type of questions on Input, the positions of words are interchanged according to a specific rule. In similar way, you may derive innumberable ways of rearrangement of input line of words or numbers.
SOME IMPORTANT TIPS
(i) First of all, observe the given input line of words or numbers and the last step of rearrangement so that you may get an idea about the changes effected in various Steps of rearrangement.
(ii) In order to know what changes have been effected in each step, observe two consecutive Steps carefully.
(iii) Now, correlate the input, the last step and any one of the middle Steps. This will enable you to identify the rule of arrangement.
While attempting questions on Input, first of all mark all the words or numbers serially from left to right according to their position in the given input line of words or numbers. Afterwards, write the number of each word accordingly in each step of arrangement. By doing so, you can observe the change effected in each step very quickly. Also, this will enable you to write the required step straight forward rather than writing successive steps. In order to comprehend these facts, study the examples given below:
To begin with such questions, you need to be a good observer.
Identify the pattern: This is the most important step in solving these questions. The output changes with respect to the given input. The main idea is to identify the type of change in output when compared with input. Let us go through a few types of patterns.
• Words & numbers arrangement in alternate order either in ascending or descending order from left to right or right to left
• Increasing & decreasing in alternate pattern
In Banking and Insurance exams, a set of five questions is asked from this topic. After learning how to identify the pattern, it’s time to know commonly featured patterns in banking and insurance exams.
Shifting – In this type of questions, we usually shift the given words or numbers of the given input as per fixed pattern.
Arrangement– In this type of questions, the pattern of ordering could be:
a. Alphabetical order in words
b. Increasing or decreasing order in numbers
c. Number of consonants or vowels in each word
d. As per words beginning with consonants or vowels
e. According to even numbers or odd numbers
Single shifting arrangement – In single shifting arrangement, one word or number is arranged either in a left or right side in each step.
Double shifting arrangement – In double shifting arrangement, two words or numbers are arranged either in a left side or right side in each step.
Directions (Q. 22-24): Study the following information to answer the given questions:
Input : win 56 32 93 bat for 46 him 28 11 give chance
Step I : 93 56 32 bat for 46 him 28 11 give chance win
Step II : 11 93 56 32 bat for 46 28 give chance win him
Step III : 56 11 93 32 bat for 46 28 chance win him give
Step IV : 28 56 11 93 32 bat 46 chance win him give for
Step V : 46 28 56 11 93 32 bat win him give for chance
Step VI : 32 46 28 56 11 93 win him give for chance bat
Step VI is the last step of the arrangement the above input.
