I love rogue-lites, I love deck building games like Dominion and more “traditional” variants like Drafting/Sealed in Magic the Gathering, so when I saw Northernlion’s Lets Look At for Slay the Spire, I knew I was probably going to be in love. It is in early access, so content is slightly limited at the moment, but I’m going to try my hardest to get as far as I can, and hopefully the game will get updates during my playthrough.
Slay the Spire is a rouge-lite where combat is based on a deck building aspect, with each encounter giving you an option to draft one of 3 cards into your deck to change up your playstyle, or make yourself more powerful. It has turn based combat and an energy system that you have to utilize to get the most out of the cards in your deck to defeat enemies and floor bosses. At the moment, it only has 2 characters, with a third in the works. There are 3 levels that are randomly generated, with branching paths for you to choose from so you can plan ahead on what you want to encounter. The addition of “relics,” passive items you can get from random encounters or from bosses add an extra layer of depth to the game, so make your choices wisely!
