Motivation:
Join us March 18th for a discussion surrounding the controversy around Clearview AI and the pros and ethical cons of facial recognition technology. As each of our own companies increasingly go into user’s granular data that may expose their behaviors or locations - we must begin to think about how data privacy will be regulated. Clearview AI presents its argument that their technology “has helped law enforcement track down hundreds of at-large criminals, including pedophiles, terrorists and sex traffickers. It is also used to help exonerate the innocent and identify the victims of crimes including child sex abuse and financial fraud”. Does this provide enough weight to exonerate the privacy concerns?

Ultimately what we will be asking ourselves over the next half-decade is who gets to set the gold standard for "what's right" for our companies? What are the implications of accepting implicit consent for the creation of surveillance tools? Should “explicit” consent obtained through current methods truly be considered explicit consent?

These are some of the topics and questions we will be covering during our lunchtime discussion.
