Interstellar object may be older than the Solar System
The object was discovered by a NASA-funded Asteroid-Earth-Impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) telescope in Chile while it was approximately 670 million kilometers from the Sun.
Subsequently, analysis of its trajectory confirmed that it is indeed an interstellar object, a body originating from outside our Solar System, and that it is a comet.
It is only the third such object ever recorded, after the asteroid 'Oumuamua (in 2017) and the comet Borisov (in 2019).
