I did a little building on my new (and first) custom Interstellar Rift ship build in this gameplay video. Honestly, I fast-forwarded through most of it, but I think, by the end, I made the outside of the ship look a little better. The shipbuilding interface takes a little getting used to, but I'm getting there. I also have to take care not to put too much on the outside because I have a feeling that the more I put on the outside shell, the more heat the inside will retain. At least I think that's the way it works. However, on the other hand, the more hull you have, the more damage you can take... maybe? We'll find out, I guess.
The other thing I did was add a thermal extractor to the lower decks. It was getting a bit hot in there with all the batteries and generators running. You can add the thermal extractor to any place on the ship, and as long as you have proper ventilation around the ship, it should cool (or heat( things down (or up)! I added coolant to the thermal regulator, but I had to craft some heatsinks at my newly installed 3D printer. To create the heatsinks, you need both copper and Deuterium. Once you have those, you add them to the 3D printer and print yourself some fancy new T1 heatsinks.
