Interview with Jonty Bankes - Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain

Founded in 1985, the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain has since performed in many venues worldwide including New York’s Carnegie Hall, Sydney’s Sydney Opera House, London’s Royal Albert Hall, as well as playing for the Queen in a private concert for her 90th birthday.

Jonty who in addition to playing the bass ukulele, whistles virtuosically.

Born in Branston, Lincolnshire. Grew up in Lincolnshire, he started playing the ukulele as a youngster playing George Formby numbers.

Jonty joined the ukes back in 1992. Has worked with Ray Davis, John Mayall, Lousiana Red, and Chuck Berry.

He also plays with his own rock group in Hamburg, Germany where he lives. He has appeared on numerous CDs with other artists.

The Interview was recorded in 2008 at Epsom Playhouse theatre.
