In this episode, we're trying something different with the programming block: instead of me continuing work on our ongoing 'Battleship' gamedev project, I figured that it might be fun for us to go over the very basics of the Python programming-language, from the perspective of someone who's never done any computer programming before.
This is something I've been interested in doing for a while, and the impetus for us finally doing it was that I overheard on his very-awesome stream ( http://twitch.tv/undead_kaiju ) that my friend was interested in picking up Python. I'm really grateful that he agreed to co-host the show with me, and I feel kind of bad that I didn't give him as much of a chance to speak as I probably should've, but I am sort of a lecturer. v_v If this becomes an ongoing series, I hope that I'll be able to strike a better balance between lecturing and discourse. I'm not a trained teacher, after all. T_T
Still, I'd say that we got a lot done for our first outing. We go over what it means to assign values to names / variables, how to use (and even define) functions, as well as covering If-Else logic blocks and While loops. By the end of the stream, we even have a very simple RPG fully programmed, and it's playable!
