The High King Rinaldi is dead. Vaslov Jakoba has inherited the Rinaldi throne, to the dismay of some and to the delight of others. In the turbulent months that follow, it is clear that some do not accept the authority of this new king - royals an noblemen travelling to and from the city of Triskellion are regularly attacked by a mysterious gang of bandits who make their hideout in a haunted forest. Frustrated by his army's inability to quell these dissidents, the king has ordered the nearby village burned, its people put to the sword.
In an act of desperation, the king's holy adviser concocts a plan: hire a group of capable mercenaries with no connection to the crown to root out the insurgents. If they can brave the haunted forest and capture the bandit leader Tassobianco before the king's patience wanes, perhaps the lives of the innocent can be spared.
