Quick commentary about Early Access, the history of it, the future of it, and everything in between. Let me know what you think about early access and if its a good thing for developers to be doing!

For the developer early access is a lovely idea. You get money faster for delivering an unfinished product and technically the community has a voice as to what is included in the game.

For the gamer it is bad, instead of being offered 100% of a product you receive 10% bundles of a game over a long period of time, however these "bundles" are not polished like the 100% project would be. So you get to enjoy these little increments that get bland quickly. When the full 100% is offered it isn't as interesting because you've played all those little 10% increments that were buggy.

I prefer what Battlefield has done overtime sort of. The idea of public alpha's and beta's are excellent. You get a taste of the game and are shown the major aspects of the game, but are not given the full game. The only thing Battlefield has done wrong is they release their public alpha's 2 weeks before the game launches, meaning there is little to no time to actually fix the game. What they're doing this year has potential as it is 4ish months in advance.
