The real news stories should say "Scientists Fail To Prove 'Oumuamua Isn't An Alien Spacecraft" - but the important part is that scientists did the math and know what to expect.

There is certainly a non-gravitational acceleration, and a lack of dust cloud means it can't be proven that the object is a comet, but that doesn't make it a spaceship either.
