Anyway, progress is going great! Here's what I've added since last time:
Added game over behavior (currently just boots you out to the menu)
Implemented a basic menu to select one of NINE different encounters showcasing different mechanics:
Gapers: Basic Enemies
Flies: AoE attacks
Mulligan: Spawner
Dinga: Splitting enemies
Bats: Dodge/confusion
Bishop: Group healing/varying stats
Gazer: Charging attacks
Cohort: Permanent status effects
Death's Heads: Withering enemies
Implemented the Item submenu! (I plan to rework it further once I implement the out-of-battle component of the mod, whatever that ends up being)
Added a couple of new status effects and moves (for the enemies, at least...)
Added a music player that plays a few tracks from some games that I enjoy :p (I didn't show it in the video, but you can press "E" to change the current track!)
Added even more move dialogue. (there will be so much by the end of this project lol)
Added some general polish/bugfixes.
TODO:
Implement system for swapping out Specials, Prayers, and Active Items.
Add more complex out-of-battle behavior (series of random battles? overworld?)
Polish sound effects/music/sprites
Add more enemies, moves, dialogue, music...
