Technological advance, like the advent of Machine Learning and Big Data, is one of the most important topics for many students and universities. As a practical application of scientific knowledge to solve problems, it is a driving factor of humanity. On the other hand though, the immense energy consumption of technology is one of the most relevant driving factors of climate change. If we just continue to grow our energy demands, we might not be able to meet them in the future. How can critical thinking and interdisciplinary research let us develop sustainable new technologies?

- Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Kai-Uwe Sattler, President of TU Ilmenau
- Prof. Martin Ziegler, Head of Microelectronics and Nanoelectronic Systems Group of TU Ilmenau
