It has many potent powertrain options, engaging handling, - 2019 Porsche Panamera Review
Overview
Those who dream of driving a 911 but need something more practical and accommodating should consider the 2019 Porsche Panamera. No matter what you think about the 2019 Panamera's styling, its dynamic abilities are beyond question.
Engines, Ride, and Handling
The base engine is a 330-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 paired with rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic; Porsche Panamera 4 and Porsche Panamera 4S models come with all-wheel drive. The latter of the two comes with a 440-hp twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6; in our testing, we ran a zero-to-60 time of 3.6 seconds. Upgrading to the GTS model adds a 453-hp twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine. The Panamera 4 e-hybrid is a 462-hp plug-in hybrid and offers an electric-only driving range of 14 miles according to the EPA; buyers looking for an all-electric Porsche will have to wait for the upcoming Taycan sedan. Not only does the 2019 Panamera offer driving thrills with its agile handling, it also provides an unnaturally smooth ride for a sports sedan—especially when equipped with the optional adjustable air suspension. In this way, the Panamera is a true dual-purpose machine; add in the practicality of the upcoming Taycan sedan (reviewed separately) and it becomes a triple threat.
Interior and Technology
The four-door Porsche boasts a driver-focused cabin that looks similar to the rest of the lineup and comes standard with plenty of goodies, including leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, and eight-way power-adjustable front seats with heat and memory settings for the driver. This being a Porsche, there are all manner of upgrades available (for a price), including sport seats with 18-way adjustability, ventilated seats, soft-close doors, four-zone automatic climate control, massaging seats, power rear sun blinds, and a fire extinguisher, among others. The center console is littered with touch-sensitive controls for functions such as the climate control. A 12.3-inch touchscreen with navigation in the center of the dash controls the infotainment system. We've found this all-touch system to be fussy and difficult to use while driving, but it sure looks the business. A host of driver-assistance features are available, including lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and even a night-vision system.
