Its Not Looking Good for Paper Mario...
37With the Switch 2 being right around the corner and having a pretty limited library for the first few months it has gotten us speculating on what Nintendo has in store for us. Its been 5 years now since Origami King launched for the Switch and that was 4 years after Color Splash which was 4 years after Sticker Star which was 5 years after Super which was 3 years after TTYD which was 4 years after the original. The point is, we’ve never went over 5 years without a brand new Paper Mario game in its 25 year history. We did get a TTYD remake last year but thats obviously not a new game.
If this 25 year streak which spans across 6 different consoles continues, it guarantees we will get a brand new Paper Mario game later this year. At the time of writing, Origami King is the 2nd best selling Paper Mario game behind Super. Even the TTYD remake sold very well and in less than a year has sold more than its GameCube counterpart. Nintendo knows how much fans love this series and Nintendo knows people will buy a new game in the series. If there’s one thing we know more than ever its that Nintendo loves money. There is money to be made by releasing a new entry in a popular Mario series within the first year of their brand new console. If Origami King had come out later in the Switch’s lifespan I would say its some time away, but its been half a decade and Nintendo has had plenty of time to work on its successor.
