Dark Souls is a game where players assume the role of a cursed undead warrior in the decaying kingdom of Lordran. The main goal is to fulfill a prophecy by ringing the Bells of Awakening, which leads to a pilgrimage to discover the fate of the undead. The overarching story is cyclical and centers around the First Flame, which is fading, and a choice must be made: sacrifice oneself to link the fire, prolonging the Age of Fire, or let it fade and usher in an Age of Dark.
