I have never owned a console so this battle system is not overused to me. Yes, some PC games have used this type of battle system, but I believe it was used a lot more in console games. So, I do not mind it. Random encounters were not too often which is a good thing. Some console games had random encounters almost every two to three meters of movement which is far too often. It seemed ok, but it was a short demo. About the length of a tutorial. Only problem I had was that there was no info on the enemies in battle. But, I think the game mentioned that it was a software or hardware upgrade for your character that granted you that ability.
